An Achievement

We are back from our holiday, broke :> but it was a super super trip and we drove from perth all the way to Albany so you could say we really went DOWN UNDER..

Came back to more items to send out and I am happy that the shop is now at 500 sales..finally..lol with not much advertisement and not a 24 hour thing of me constantly listing and selling, I must say I am really more than glad to have made it thus far...

Work will be busy and that means lesser times for etsy but still service will be top:)

So stay tuned, and I will be happy to share our itenary with you....lots of photos to load up..after I have edited them of course~~<:

ON VACATIOn

We are off to the land of DOWN UNDER , together with another family , to the western part of Australia in PERTH...for a time of great fun and relaxation and enjoying the great outdoors. This will be a budget trip and we are travelling on budget air too:)

The weather seems to fluctuate between highs of 23 degrees to as low as 8 degrees in the night, so when it comes to clothing, I really don't know what I should wear...
Brought a couple of tees for the day and a few long sleeves for the night and a jacket to keep the wind out , hoping that is enough...really like to travel light if I can...
Till I am back , with more to share with you:)

Thank you for the feature and More Updates~~`

I went for driving lessons today and I passed 2 subjects so i am now at 3.2. Enjoying lessons every bit and I must admit, I did cramp in a lot during the dec break. Considering that I started 2nd week of dec, and I am now at this stage, I guess you can imagine how many lessons I went a week, right?

Why the hurry"?...cos I would really love to pass and drive myself to work...and also...
Legs are sore from doing the half clutch through S course...lol

But I feel so much better knowing that my bird nest found its way to a treasury:)
Thank you so much, KerriSlade, do visit her store for some fabulous finds and treasures....and her beaded earrings are gorgeous...

New Line of Items

I have been really MIA and close friends go "Hey when are u gonna show your face again?"
Truth is, I have been really really busy these months, with short trips overseas and a major change - shifting~~~

It is probably the next most stressful thing, next to wedding and change of job. From getting the rt furniture to the rt look, to the rt contractor etc, all these are hands on and they are TIME CONSUMIMG~~ Phew, finally things are much more settled now and the new house is looking alot better and my kitchen is FINALLY up (We slept without HOT water for 2 weeks and admist lots of dust as the kitchen was NOT up YET)

Tomorrow, minor touch ups here and there and I can happily say we are 99% done. And I can get on to my business.

In these 2 months, lots of knowledge was gained, and given time, i could probably write about how many different sinks we looked at, just to find the perfect one.

Why so much effort just for ONE sink, some may ask? It wasn't about the PRICE, Not because of the Brand, And certainly Not because we had nothing to do:)
A sink is a small item but just think how often you use it. If you cook, then you might actually realise you use it even more often than the dryer or the TV.

I guess the most basic thing in the kitchen might seem the most insignificant and it gets missed out at times. Our sink in the previous house served us for a good 4 years and I must say I felt a tinge of pride when the new owner remarked how well kept the kitchen was:)

I could share so much more but one thing is for certain, stay tuned to see what else comes this way and it would be ALOT ALOT easier to get my pretties locally in the coming weeks...why?

You shall soon find out:)

PS, and what is up with the strange column on the left? Hm.. it was a genuine attempt to have a 3 column blog which of course has been pushed aside until now, and I am not sure when it would be a 3 column blog but I am crossing my fingers and hoping it is soon too:)

Sincerely

Autumn

Arte y Pico Award

This came as such a pleasant surprise one day when Tote-N-Tots presented me with the Arte y Pico Award.

By the way, you must check out her bags and totes, they are really pretty:)

As I understand it, the award, originally started by Esey, was awarded to bloggers who inspire others with their creative energy and their talents, be it writing or artwork in all media’s. When you receive this award it is considered a “special honor”. (as so i am told, so how can i refuse it right?:)

The Arte y Pico Award is meant to be paid forward to bloggers whom you think are deserving of it.

Therefor, it bring me great pleasure to present the award to the following five blogs who have each inspired me in their own fabulous way.

1. Ade from Claybeads - http://claybeads.blogspot.com/ - for her outstanding ahievements and her colourful blog on her clay adventure

2. Lis from http://simpleartsplanet.com/craftblog/ -for her excellent work on amigurumi and for creating her own patterns

3.Totusmel from http://totusmel.blogspot.com/ - for 'reviving' what i thought was a lost art:)

4. Cozy loFt at http://thecozyloft.wordpress.com/ - for reallt sweet, and beautiful home decor creations.

5.piggytailsstationary's blog at http://saramcmartin.wordpress.com/ - for her brilliant illustrations and just the place for my stationery:)

Once you've been selected, please follow these guidelines and pay it forward:

1) Choose 5 blogs that you consider deserving of this award based on creativity, design, interesting material, and overall contribution to the blogger community, regardless of the language.

2) Post the name of the author and a link to his or her blog so everyone canview it.

3) Each award-winner has to show the award and put the name and linkto the blog that has given her or him the award.

4) The award-winner and the presenter should post the link of the "Arte ypico" blog , so everyone will know the origin of this award.

5) Please post these rules!

I was on the Etsy GiftGuides

Wow, this month seems to be full of surprises...another etsyian, ShaynaMaidel told me that I was in the etsy gift guides and I was elated.Shayna is a wonderful seller and she makes great lip balms. I ordered this from her before and they are reallly good and they feel so organic and fresh...because they are:)
Having been on etsy for almost a year, this is my first time(at least from what I know) being in the gift guides.
The gift guides are chosen by Etsy Admins, and they select suitable items based on the gift guide category and my items were selected for the TEEN category:)

It is such an encouragement~~er..but the bad news is that, the two items were sold within 2 days, so by the time I tell you about them now, I am no longer in the GG, but I managed to get a snap shot of it.

By the way, you can purchase the similar vintage style dove necklaces in my shop.

From melaniesOriginals

Thank you all of you for having made my day...

Hee hee, I had my first repeat customer on etsy and I am so happy. It's one thing to have new customers but realy great to service previous ones. This buyer was 'silent' one durign the first buy as there was not much chance to communicate with her so when she just dropped by to purchase another 2 items, I was ecstatic. Afterall, it means that someone appreciates and values your work enough to want to buy from you :) and in the world of etsy and jewelry, there is a lot of competition, so that give me encouragement to move on.

My Dilemma-Help Solve

As a follow up to the earlier article, please help me on this:)

Tell me what I should do now?
I had this idea of making my jewelry more cost effective by toying with the idea of combining 2 necklaces into 1, and just before I can do it, I reminded myself to ensure no one else has this idea, I have treaded on dangerous waters inintetionally...
To my horror, and sadness, someone else has done something similar, problem is I thought of that in my head, but now, after looking at the web, I seemed to have to stop myself from doing that.., Is this fair to me?
I feel constrained...
So tell me, what would you do?I would really like to know..cos i am stuck!:(
I am prepared that not everyone woudl agree with my points but my intention is not to hurt anyone but give my humble 2 cents worth:)

On Copyright-who are the real victims

Hi Fellow Beaders and Bead Enthusiats,

First, please forgive the long post. I just could not sleep and it is 1 30am now. Why cant I sleep? Because, the words for these post keep running through my head and I do hope they turn out the way I want them to, cos I tossed on the bed 4 times trying to lull myself to sleep but my mind just wanted to speak.

Recently, there has been many articles and even'rave' about copyrt issues for beaders etc..and ineveitably I have been affected too, not because I have been accused of copying but it was suggested that I had copied...the Dreaded Word?

A dreaded word for someone who came out with the original design and also someone who has copied...

Please do not mistake me, I am not condoning Copycats, I am not , and I do think the Beaders Ethics sums it up pretty well and I totally agree with it. I also agree with certain beaders their concern to copyright their items because they are truly unique or they represent something about the beader, much like perhaps what Mickey Mouse is to Walt Disney. And if you are in Singapore, then you may even agree with me that a beaded butterfly is a rather unique and not commonly found item...and perhaps warrants copyright.(as I did not seek this crafter's permission, I choose not to list her name, but some of you may know who I am referring about)=>

If that is the crafter's trademark design, give her credit for it. Dont copy it until it may mislead me to think that the "CopyCat" (I use this word guardedly) was the originator... That is definitely a NO NO....

But I am not referring to these group of peopel who blatantly, outrightly and obviously copy. They ought to be ashamed, should they not?

Unfortunately, they are not the people I am referring to,,,rather I am referring to the truly ignorant few, those who

1.Do not or Have not until recently discovered the beauty of blogging (I was a Blogger Pumpkin)Hard to believe? But it is true...yes

Did people like them know about Blogger?

Did they know they could sell stuff here?

Did they have access to the internet?

Yes to all the above, but only 1 problem...

They were slow....slow in what?
  • Slow in getting their stuff up on the internet first,

  • Slow in perhaps registering a design that they may have come up first but did not think to copyright it...

  • Slow in showing by proof thru selling items or 3rd party means that they produced the design first

Not so hard to believe if you have been working for 20 years, beading for 15 years, selling to relatives and friends maybe 6 years put together?

But simply too busy trying to carve out a career and care for a family you hold dear to...Years later, things settle, and you finally had time to see this as your hobby in greater light, and have so much more time to fiddle with things like Blogger?

I have no issue with a copyright and I certainly uphold it but I do not want the copyrt law to be abused>?

How so,you may ask?

Well, if I could copyright and Had copyrighted any thing with 2 beads and a charm, or 3 findings and a flower bead for eg, (I am not referring to anyone, just writing what this sleepy head is saying...)and say that is a copyright, then I would be rich by now, because I would be dominating the market...but to think of it, I wont be, cos there would be sooo many other veteran, acclaimed others who would have done that to....

So would it be an infringment then, If i really had copyrighted the above, and someome chose to do a similar thing, but instead of using a daisy flower, which I use, and changes that to rose? Can I really call him or her a copycat?

On the contrary, if someone had copied the idea of this lovely etsy seller who uses scrabble tiles and make them into pendants, then that might be a copycat, isnt it?I think in this scenario, it is easier to see who the copy cat is because the idea is so uncommon, and ethically, we should not do that...

But what about beading?HAve you ever wondered how many different beads and findings in the world?

Numerous...

So can it not be a coincidence at times that fellow beaders have bought the same beads, findings and crafted it in the same manner?I would think so...cos I do not believe that creativity on what to do with those beads, runs only in me...but to everyone who has been given it...

Why am I being so long winded? My point is that, we should also consider the "them", the rest of the world, people who do not constantly look at other blogs or creations to find new ideas for Copying! In fact, people like me do not sometimes even have time to go to the loo if we are multi tasking 3 different things at the same time...Would we even care to look at others?

But strangely, since I heard about this growing fever to boycott copycats, I can imagine myself looking at other blogs, after my completed design etc to ensure that I did not Copy@!

Did you hear that rt?Yes...

I have spent about 1 hour in all for the last 2 weeks viewing blogs or even typing certain key words to ensure that the earring or necklace i made does not look similar to anyone elses!

Afterall, nobody like to be slammed or be accused of a being a copycat when they are not.

I cannot even believe this. I am looking, to make sure that my idea is different, Not Because I want to copy...

I could have put that 1 hour to good use and bead a beautiful creation and if so unfortunately, someone else has it, then I can only say Creativity is truly not Limited...so enigmatic, this quality...

But 1 thing is clear, at least my conscience is clear and my time was used more creatively...

So tell me who are the real victims...?(Those who are have had their original works violated intentionally, are of course victims...and a larger infliction of hurt is to them)

But there are also others like me, (hopefully i am not the only idiot around) who have been dragged into this web, so unwillingly and inevitably...

From the sleepy head of a clear soul:)
